Launch vehicle model «Vostok»
The model of the launch vehicle Vostok is a full-size copy of one of the most famous rockets in the history of Soviet and Russian cosmonautics, installed on the Industry Square near the Cosmos pavilion at VDNKH. The launch vehicle Vostok was developed at OKB-1 under the leadership of Sergei Korolev. On April 12, 1961, it launched the Vostok-1 spacecraft into near-Earth orbit, on which Yuri Gagarin made the first manned flight into outer space in the history of the Earth. The mockup of the rocket is made in full size and has dimensions similar to the original rocket: its length with a fairing is 38.4 meters and the maximum transverse diameter is 10.3 meters; the weight of the layout is 25 tons. The installation of a Mockup of the launch vehicle Vostok at the VDNKH of the USSR was timed to coincide with the upcoming 50th anniversary of the Great October Socialist Revolution. The layout was strengthened and restored in 2010: specialists strengthened its supporting structures and also restored the paintwork of the case. A Mockup of the launch vehicle Vostok is located in front of the Cosmos pavilion on the VDNKH Industrial Square. You can get to it on foot from the metro station «VDNKH» of the Kaluga-Riga line.
