Vladimir Vasilyevich Karpov was the commander of a platoon of foot reconnaissance of the 529th regiment of the 134th Rifle Division of the 39th Army of the Kalinin Front, a lieutenant, the Hero of the Soviet Union, a writer and publicist. He was a participant of the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945. Since October 1942 he was in a penal company on the Kalinin Front, and then he was a private, sergeant, lieutenant of a platoon of foot reconnaissance of the 629th rifle regiment of the 134th rifle division of the 39th Army. He was the member of the CPSU (b)/CPSU in 1943-1991. The commander of the foot reconnaissance platoon of the 529th regiment of the 134th Rifle Division of the 39th Army of the Kalinin Front, Lieutenant Vladimir Vasilyevich Karpov, distinguished himself in the Smolensk offensive operation in August – September 1943, where he made more than 30 exits at the head of a reconnaissance group to the German rear in the Dukhovshchinsky district of the Smolensk region. In these raids, 35 prisoners were captured and brought alive to the command. For the excellent performance of the tasks of the command at the front of the struggle against the Nazi invaders and the courage and heroism shown at the same time, by the Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR dated June 4, 1944, Lieutenant Vladimir V. Karpov was awarded the title of the Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal. During the war years, he participated in the seizure of 79 “tongues”. After the third injury and treatment in the hospital, he was sent to study at the Higher Intelligence School of the General Staff. A student of this school, Captain Vladimir Vasilyevich Karpov, was a flag bearer in the column of scouts at the Victory Parade on June 24, 1945. In 1947 he graduated from M.V. Frunze Military Academy. He worked in the General Staff until 1954. In 1954 he graduated from the evening department of Gorky Literary Institute.
