Commemorative sign in honor of the 65th anniversary of Victory in the Battle of Moscow
The memorial sign was installed in honor of the 65th anniversary of the Victory in the Battle of Moscow. It is a granite block mounted on a rectangular slab of the same material. Granite elements are located on a base made of concrete. On the frontal surface there is a memorial plaque, on which the inscription is made in slotted letters: “To the Defenders of Moscow during the Great Patriotic War 1941-1945”. Military elements are installed on the pedestal in front of the northern facade of the memorial stone: a helmet and an artillery shell. The victory near Moscow was of great political and military importance. It marked the collapse of Germany’s strategic plans, marked the beginning of the deployment of mass resistance in the occupied territories of the USSR, and served to strengthen the anti-Hitler coalition. Numerous shortcomings in armament, tactics of actions, in the leadership of the troops, as well as the stubborn resistance of the German troops led to a significant superiority of the losses of the Red Army over the losses of the German troops. The total losses of Army Group Center in December 1941 amounted to about 103,600 people killed and wounded. The total losses of Soviet troops during the counteroffensive amounted to 370,955 people (including 139,586 people that were irretrievable).
