Bunkin

Boris Vasilyevich Bunkin was a scientist, designer and organizer of the production of anti–aircraft missile systems for air defence, twice Hero of Socialist Labor, winner of the Lenin Prize. After graduating from the first course of MAI, in 1941, with the beginning of the Great Patriotic War, he began working at the Moscow Aircraft Engine Plant No. 24 (now the Moscow Machine–Building Production Association «Salyut»). He graduated from MAI and entered postgraduate studies at the Department of Radio Engineering at this university in 1947. Since 1950, he worked at KB No. 1, later renamed the Strela Moscow Design Bureau (now NPO Almaz named after Academician A.A. Raspletin»). For half a century, this company has been the main developer and manufacturer of anti-aircraft missile systems for the air defence forces. In 1968-1998, B.V. Bunkin was the general designer of the enterprise, from 1998 to 2007 – scientific supervisor. Under his leadership, the serial production of anti-aircraft missile systems that formed the basis of the armament of the Russian air defence forces was developed and established: S-75, S-125, S-300 and S-400. He was awarded the Soviet 4 Orders of Lenin, the Orders of the October Revolution, the Red Banner of Labor, the Badge of Honor, the Russian Orders of Merit for the Fatherland, 4th degree, Friendship, medals. He was the Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor, Laureate of the Lenin Prize, the State Prize of the USSR and the Russian Federation. He was awarded the A.A. Raspletin Gold Medal of the USSR Academy of Sciences and the V.F. Utkin Gold Medal.
