Tokarev Fedor Vasilievich was a designer of small arms, Hero of Socialist Labor (1940), winner of the Stalin Prize. His most famous developments are the TT pistol and the SVT-38/40 rifle. In 1919 the Red Army Armament Commission sent Fedor Vasilievich Tokarev to the Izhevsk Arms Factory, where was organized a competition for the development of automatic rifles with subsequent tests in 1921. His work, which had experience in designing such samples, was recognized as the best. The designer was sent to a factory in Tula to oversee the production of the first ten copies of his new automatic rifle after winning the competition. Fedor Vasilievich Tokarev developed a number of improvements to foreign weapons, such as the Maxim-Tokarev light machine gun (based on the Maxim machine gun), the Maxim aviation machine gun (replaced the former Vickers machine gun) and created his own submachine gun for a 7.62 mm Nagant cartridge. The main achievement of Fedor Vasilievich Tokarev’s technical thought was the invention of the TT self-loading pistol. Also, the SVT-38 (1938) and SVT-40 self-loading rifles developed by a talented gunsmith (1940 modernization) were successful. This weapon was used during the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945.
