Kravchenko

Fyodor Iosifovich Kravchenko was an active participant in the partisan struggle in Ukraine, commander of the Bogun partisan detachment, captain. He was born on March 4, 1912 in the village of Unarokovo, now it is in Mostovsky district of Krasnodar Krai, in a peasant family. . He was member of the CPSU (b)/CPSU since 1943. His parents were unable to feed a large family and in 1913 went to seek happiness overseas. He settled in Uruguay. His father worked in agriculture in a colony of Russian emigrants. Here F.I. Kravchenko took part in the class battles of the proletarians. In 1925 the Kravchenko family returned to their homeland and Fedor began working in Moscow. In 1927 he joined the Communist Youth Union, worked in its apparatus. He was in the Red Army since October 1936. In 1937 he was sent to Spain, until 1938 he participated in the war of the Spanish people against fascism. On the eve of the war, F.I. Kravchenko returned to Moscow. When the Great Patriotic War began, he carried out a special task of the front command behind enemy lines. In August 1942 the group F.I. Kravchenko established a connection with the partisan detachment of Grigory Vasilyevich Balitsky, stationed in the area of the Zlynkovsky and Chechersk forests. Since that time both groups had operated jointly on the lines of the Gomel railway junction. In a short time, the partisans of F.I. Kravchenko and G.V. Balitsky blew up 11 enemy echelons. F.I. Kravchenko took part in the destruction of ten of them. On the night of August 28, 1942 at the Zakopytye station on the Bryansk — Gomel railway with the participation of F.I. Kravchenko was blown up by an echelon with officers of enemy tank and flight units, while several hundred Nazis were killed and wounded. On October 31, 1942 an ambush was organized under his leadership in the Chechen forests and a column of enemy vehicles was defeated. In mid-November 1942 the detachment came to the Kletnyansky forests, where it met with the compound of Alexei Fedorovich Fedorov. After that the partisans acted together. In January 1943, F.I. Kravchenko fell ill and flew to the rear for treatment, and after recovering he was sent to the enemy rear in the area of the river Yvyt in Volhynia. At that time, the Chernihiv-Volyn connection was approaching the Kovel railway junction. F.I. Kravchenko established contact with A.F. Fedorov and on July 10, 1943 was appointed commander of a group of partisans of 50 people. In a short time, his group gained combat experience and grew into a combat unit named after I. Bogun, operating on the Kovel —Brest railway section. During the period from July 15 to December 10, 1943 a detachment under the command of F.I. Kravchenko derailed 43 echelons with military equipment and enemy manpower. At the same time, more than 650 Nazis were killed and about 900 wounded. By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR dated May 2, 1945, for exemplary performance of combat missions of the command and heroism and courage shown at the same time, Fyodor Kravchenko was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal.
