Malygin
1905-1990
Konstantin Alekseevich Malygin was the commander of the 9th Mechanized Corps, Major General of tank troops, the Hero of the Soviet Union. He was the army since October 1923. In 1927 he finished Krasnoyarsk Artillery School. He served in the artillery as a platoon commander, assistant commander and battery commander. In 1937 he graduated from the Military Academy of Mechanization and Motorization. He served in the tank forces as a chief of staff of the tank brigade, and since March 1941 as the Chief of Staff of the 41st Tank Division (in the Kiev Special Military District). He was a participant of the Great Patriotic War: in June-September 1941 – Chief of Staff of the 41st Tank Division (South-Western Front). He participated in a counter tank battle near the city of Lutsk (Ukraine) and the defence of Kiev. He especially distinguished himself during the crossing of the Dnieper. The advanced units of the corps under his command on the night of September 22, 1943, forced the river near the village of Zarubintsy (now it does not exist, it is flooded by the waters of the Kanevsky reservoir, the territory of the Cherkasy region, Ukraine) and, despite the massive enemy air bombardment and artillery shelling of the area, by September 27, 1943 they ensured the crossing of tank units of the corps to the right the bank of the Dnieper. Then, until October 15, 1943, he led the battles of the corps entrusted to him to expand the Bukrinsky bridgehead in the areas of the villages of Zarubintsy, Lukovitsa and Grigorovka, while at the command and observation posts of the brigades. For the skillful command of the corps and the courage and heroism shown in the battles with the Nazi invaders, by the Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR dated November 17, 1943, Major General of tank troops Konstantin Alekseevich Malygin was awarded the title of the Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal. In July 1945 – September 1946 he was the commander of the 7th training tank Brigade. In October 1946 – December 1948 he was the commander of the 9th Guards Tank Division in the Group of Soviet Troops in Germany. In 1948-1950 he was a Senior lecturer at the Department of Tactics of Higher Formations of the Military Academy of Armored and Mechanized Troops. In 1951 he completed the Higher Academic Courses at the Military Academy of the General Staff. In July 1953 – February 1957, he was on a business trip abroad in China as a senior military adviser to the commander of the armored and mechanized troops of the People’s Liberation Army of China. Since May 1957 he was the Head of the special Faculty for the training of officers of the armies of the countries of People’s Democracy at the Military Academy of Armored Forces. Since January 1961, Major General of tank troops K.A.Malygin was in reserve.
