to civil aviation pilots who died in the Great Patriotic War


In the Vnukovo district of Moscow, there is the only monument in Russia dedicated to civil aviation pilots. The memorial complex in Vnukovo “Monument to civil aviation pilots who died in the battles of the Great Patriotic War 1941-1945”, installed on May 9, 1980 in the village of Vnukovo, it is a stele, a vertical memorial sign with three bas-reliefs of the commander, navigator and radio operator. The height of the stele is 34 meters. Under the screws there are inscriptions “Eternal glory to the aviators who fell in the battles for our Soviet homeland!”, “Victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945 – the feat of the entire Soviet people.” The supporting structures are made of grade 3 SP steel, the lining material is stainless steel and titanium. In 2010, memorial plates were installed next to the stele, on which 890 names of pilots who died during the Great Patriotic War were engraved. During the years of the war, Aeroflot aviators made more than one and a half million sorties, transported 2.5 million wounded paratroopers, scouts, 300 thousand tons of military and strategic cargo. The memorial complex in Vnukovo is the only monument in Russia dedicated to civil aviation pilots.
