Nikolay Kirillovich Bogolepov was a Soviet neurologist, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor, consultant of the 4th Main Directorate of the Ministry of Health of the USSR, Academician of the Academy of Medical Sciences of the USSR, the Hero of Socialist Labor. From 1930 to 1935 he worked as a researcher at the Institute of Examination of Working Capacity, from 1935 – assistant, and then associate professor of the Department of Nervous Diseases of the 3rd Moscow Medical Institute. During the Great Patriotic War (1941-1945), he was a consultant neurologist in a number of evacuation hospitals in Moscow. After defending his doctoral dissertation in 1947 on disorders of motor functions in disorders of cerebral circulation, he was in charge of the neurological department of the Institute for the Examination of Working Capacity. Since 1951 he headed the Department of Medical and Labor Expertise at the Central Institute of Advanced Medical Training, and in 1958 he was elected the head of the Department of Nervous Diseases of the 2nd Moscow Medical Institute. At the same time, he was the chief neuropathologist (1954-1960), and then the consultant of the 4th Main Directorate of the Ministry of Health of the USSR and Deputy Academician-Secretary of the Department of Clinical Medicine of the USSR Academy of Medical Sciences. N.K. Bogolepov published more than 450 scientific papers, including 19 monographs and manuals. The main direction is the pathology of cerebral circulation. A large number of works was devoted to neurological syndromes with circulatory disorders in various systems. He developed a classification of vascular diseases of the nervous system, developed the doctrine of cerebral circulatory insufficiency, studied the violation of hemodynamics and cerebral blood flow during operations for congenital and acquired heart defects using artificial circulation.
