Vyacheslav Vitalievich Markin was the commander of the air squadron of the 624th Assault Aviation Regiment, a senior lieutenant. He was in the army since November 1940. In 1942 he graduated from the Balashov Military Aviation School of Pilots. In 1942-1943 he was a pilot of the 5th reserve Aviation Regiment (in the city of Kuibyshev, now Samara). He was a participant of the Great Patriotic War: in May 1943 – March 1945 he was a pilot, flight commander, deputy commander and the commander of the air squadron of the 624th Assault Aviation Regiment. He fought on the Bryansk (May-October 1943), 2nd (October-November 1943) and 1st (November 1943 – March 1944) Baltic, 3rd Belorussian (June-September 1944) and 1st Ukrainian (November 1944 – March 1945) fronts. He participated in the Oryol, Bryansk, Gorodok, Vitebsk, Vitebsk-Orsha, Vilnius, Sandomierz-Silesian and Lower Silesian operations. On July 31, 1943 he was wounded. During the war he made 125 sorties on an IL-2 attack aircraft to strike at enemy manpower and equipment. For the courage and heroism shown in the battles with the Nazi invaders, by the Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR dated June 27, 1945, Senior Lieutenant Vyacheslav Vitalyevich Markin was awarded the title of the Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal. In 1949 he graduated from Air Force Academy (Monino). He served as an assistant commander of an assault aviation regiment (in the Carpathian Military District). In 1951-1956 he was a pilot–inspector of the Department of Military Educational Institutions of the Air Force, since 1956 he was an assistant of the head of the Lipetsk tactical flight courses of the Air Force for methodological training. Since February 1958, Lieutenant Colonel V.V. Markin was in reserve.
