Samsonov

Konstantin Yakovlevich Samsonov was a Colonel, participant in the storming of the Reichstag, the Hero of the Soviet Union. He was born in Moscow in a working-class family. He finished 7 grades at school and a factory training school. He worked as a locksmith at a factory, then on the construction of the Moscow metro. He was in the Red Army since 1937. In 1939 he completed the courses of junior lieutenants. He was at the front in the Great Patriotic War since May 1943. In 1944 he completed the Advanced Training Courses of the command staff. He was the Commander of the 1st Rifle Battalion of the 380th Rifle Regiment (the 171st Rifle Division, the 3rd Shock Army, the 1st Belorussian Front). Senior Lieutenant K.Y. Samsonov distinguished himself in the battles for the capital of Nazi Germany – Berlin. On April 30, 1945, K.Y. Samsonov participated in the general offensive against the Reichstag. He was a part of a special group of troops that knocked the enemy out of the basements during a 30-hour battle, which contributed to the fulfillment of the combat mission and the capture of the Reichstag. By the decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR dated May 8, 1946, Senior Lieutenant Konstantin Yakovlevich Samsonov was awarded the title of the Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin (No. 33093) and the Gold Star Medal (No. 6970) for his skillful leadership of the battalion, exemplary performance of combat missions of the command and courage and heroism in battles with the Nazi invaders. In 1952 the brave officer graduated from Military-Political Academy. He worked as a senior lecturer at the Moscow Institute of Transport Engineers. Since 1968 Colonel Konstantin Yakovlevich Samsonov was in reserve.
