Kalmykov

Valery Dmitrievich Kalmykov was statesman, Minister of Radio Industry of the USSR (1965-1974), the Hero of Socialist Labor, winner of Stalin Prizes. Valery Dmitrievich Kalmykov worked at the Moskabel plant since 1929: he was a foreman, shop foreman, senior engineer. He graduated from the evening department of the Moscow Power Engineering Institute named after V.M. Molotov in 1934. He had worked at the Research Institute-10 of the People’s Commissariat (Ministry) of the Shipbuilding Industry since 1935 as a design engineer, chief designer, chief engineer, since 1941 as a director. He was included in the Radar Council at the State Defense Committee in 1943. He had been the Head of the Main Directorate of Jet Weapons of the Ministry of Shipbuilding Industry of the USSR since 1949. He had been responsible for work in the apparatus of the USSR Council of Ministers for the management of defense industries since 1951. He was Minister of Radio Engineering Industry of the USSR, was responsible for the creation and provision of electronic complexes for the rocket and space industry and missile defense in 1954-1957. He was the Chairman of the State Committee of the Council of Ministers of the USSR on Radio Electronics, was responsible for providing radio-electronic systems to the rocket and space industry in 1957-1963. Since March 1963 Valery Kalmykov had been the Chairman of the State Committee on Radio Electronics of the USSR – Minister of the USSR. He had been the Minister of Radio Industry of the USSR, was personally responsible for the creation and provision of electronics for the rocket and space industry and missile defense since March 1965. He was awarded the title of Hero of Socialist Labor (1961) for the preparation of the first human flight into space. The name of Valery Dmitrievich Kalmykov was assigned to the Scientific Research Institute of Calculating Engineering, Taganrog Radio Engineering Institute, Moscow Plant of Calculating and Analytical Machines, Sevastopol Radio Factory. He was awarded 7 Orders of Lenin, the Order of the October Revolution, medals, including «For Labor Valor».
