Parin

Vasily Vasilyevich Parin was one of the outstanding scientists in the field of physiology and pathology of blood circulation, academician of the USSR Academy of Sciences (1966) and the USSR Academy of Medical Sciences (1944). He was the author of classical studies of reflex regulation of pulmonary circulation, discoverer of one of the mechanisms regulating blood flow to the heart (“Parin reflex”). In 1922-1932 Vasily Vasilyevich Parin was finishing his studies at the Faculty of Medicine in Perm and postgraduate studies at the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics in Kazan. Vasily Vasilyevich Parin defended his doctoral dissertation in January 1941 at the First Medical Institute in Moscow. During the Great Patriotic War, Vasily Vasilyevich Parin was appointed to the post of Deputy People’s Commissar of Health for Medical Science and Education. After the defeat of the fascists near Moscow, the third Moscow Medical Institute of republican subordination was established and Vasily Vasilyevich Parin was elected by competition to the post of the head of the Department of Normal Physiology. In 1942 Vasily Vasilyevich Parin was appointed a representative of the People’s Commissar of Health for combating epidemics. Activity of V.V. Parin during the Great Patriotic War was highly appreciated, in 1943 he was awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor – “for selfless work in evacuation hospitals, successful anti-epidemic measures, good organization of medical services to the population and training of medical personnel.” In 1945 Vasily Vasilyevich Parin was awarded medals: “For valiant labor in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945”, “For the victory over Germany in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945” and “For the Defence of the Caucasus”. Vasily Vasilyevich Parin was one of the founders of the Academy of Medical Sciences of the USSR. In 1957 the first artificial Earth satellite was launched in the Soviet Union. The dog Laika was already in space on the second satellite. Vasily Vasilyevich Parin participated in the biological support of the launch of the ship with a dog Laika on board. Since that time, the scientific and social activities of Vasily Vasilyevich Parin was inextricably linked with space biology and medicine. In 1961 Vasily Vasilyevich Parin was twice awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor for his great achievements in the field of health protection of the Soviet people and the development of medical science and “great successes achieved in the development of the rocket industry, science and technology, the successful implementation of the world’s first flight of a Soviet man into outer space on the Vostok satellite ship”. In 1964 Vasily Vasilyevich Parin was elected a full member of International Astronautical Academy in the section of Biological Sciences.
