Aleksander Fedorovich Avdeev was the Deputy squadron commander of the 153rd Fighter Aviation Regiment, a captain, the Hero of the Soviet Union. At the age of one year and a half, he lost his mother and he lived with his grandmother. He finished 7 grades of junior high school. In 1932, he moved to his father in the Moscow region. After finishing FSU school in 1933, he worked as a locksmith at a foundry and mechanical plant in Moscow. At the same time, he studied at the Podolsk Aero Club. He was in the Red Army since 1937. According to the Komsomol permit, he was sent to Borisoglebsk Military Aviation School. After graduating from aviation school in 1939, he was sent to the Leningrad Military District. He was a participant of the Soviet-Finnish War of 1939-1940. He participated in the Great Patriotic War since June 1941. In December 1941, in one of the reconnaissance missions, he discovered and photographed a camouflaged long-range enemy battery, for which he was awarded the Order of the Red Star. By January 1942 Captain A.F. Avdeev made 189 successful combat sorties, shot down 7 enemy aircraft in air battles. He was a member of the CPSU (b) since 1942. In June 1942, together with the regiment, he joined the 2nd Air Army of the Voronezh Front. On August 12, 1942, over the village of Novaya Usman in the Novouspensky district of the Voronezh Region, at the head of a P-39D squadron, he engaged a large group of enemy Ju-88 bombers accompanied by Me-109 fighters. From the very first attack Avdeev managed to shoot down the plane of the leading group. The formation of bombers broke up. Some of them began to get rid of the bombs and turn back. Dodging the escort fighters, Avdeev continued to attack the Junkers. Soon a new group of bombers appeared. Avdeev with two wingmen crashed into their formation, firing in short bursts. Two Junkers still broke through to the goal. Avdeev rushed after them. Catching one of them in the crosshairs, he pressed the trigger, but there were no shots. Then he increased his speed and struck the enemy with his whole mass. Both planes exploded in the air. By the decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR dated February 10, 1943, Captain Alexander Fedorovich Avdeev was awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union (posthumously).
