Alexander Iosifovich Shuvaev was the Deputy commander of the rifle battalion for the political part of the 248th separate cadet Rifle Brigade, a captain, the Hero of the Soviet Union. He was born on June 8, 1917 in the village of Maly Samovets, the Lipetsk district, the Tambov Province (now a village in the Petrovsky district, the Tambov region), in a worker’s family. Soon after his birth, the family moved to the city of Tashkent. He worked in the city of Kizil-Arvat of the Turkmen SSR as an accountant of a railway hospital. In March 1942 he was drafted into the Red Army by the Kizil-Arvat GVK. After finishing/ graduating from Kharkov military-political College in 1942, he was sent to the front. For military services during the liberation of Kursk, the assistant company commander, Lieutenant Shuvaev, was awarded the Order of the Red Star. The deputy commander of the 2nd Rifle Battalion, Captain Shuvaev, distinguished himself during the crossing of the Dnieper near the village of Tolokun at the end of September 1943. In the battles for the expansion of the bridgehead, Shuvaev replaced the battalion commander who was out of action, organized the reflection of enemy counterattacks, which allowed not only to successfully force the river, but also to gain a foothold and hold the defence of all units of the brigade. By the decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR dated October 17, 1943, for the successful crossing of the Dnieper River north of Kiev, the solid consolidation of the bridgehead on the right bank and the courage and heroism shown at the same time, Captain Alexander Iosifovich Shuvaev was awarded the title of the Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal. Since 1946 he was in reserve. He lived in Moscow. From 1967 until the end of his life he worked as an economist at the Salyut plant.
