Chuntonov

Nikolay Grigoryevich Chuntonov was a gunner of the artillery division of the 71st Mechanized Brigade, junior sergeant, the Hero of the Soviet Union. He was born on May 22, 1922 in Kazan. After graduation, he worked as a locksmith at a factory in the city of Shymkent in Kazakhstan. He was drafted into the Red Army in January 1943. After finishing the military infantry school, he was sent to the front, served as a gunner in an artillery division. In November 1943, in Ukraine, near the city of Fastov, while repelling enemy attacks, he knocked out several German guns and killed a large number of enemy soldiers. By the Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR “On conferring the title of the Hero of the Soviet Union to generals, officers, sergeants and enlisted personnel of the Red Army” dated January 10, 1944, for “exemplary performance of combat missions of the command at the front of the struggle against the Nazi invaders and the courage and heroism shown at the same time”, he was awarded the title of the Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and Gold Star medals. He was a member of the CPSU since 1944. In 1945 he finished Khabarovsk Artillery School, participated in the war with Japan. In 1955 he went into reserve. He graduated from Construction Institute and then worked as the chief architect of the Leninsky district of the Moscow region.
