Shmyrin

Fyodor Sergeevich Shmyrin was the flight commander of the 175th Guards Assault Aviation Regiment of the 11th Guards Assault Aviation Division of the 16th Air Army of the 1st Belorussian Front, a Guard Junior Lieutenant, the Hero of the Soviet Union. He was in the Red Army since 1940. In 1943 he graduated from Chkalov Military Aviation School. He was on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War since December 1943. He was the flight commander of the 175th Guards Assault Aviation Regiment (11th Guards Assault Aviation Division, 16th Air Army, 1st Belorussian Front). By the end of March 1945, Junior Lieutenant F.S. Shmyrin made 114 combat sorties to attack enemy troops, destroying five tanks, 111 convoys, and a hundred artillery batteries on his IL-2 attack aircraft. For exemplary performance of combat missions of the command and courage and heroism in the battles with the Nazi invaders, by Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR dated May 15, 1946, Junior Lieutenant Fyodor Shmyrin was awarded the title of the Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star Medal (No. 7048). After the war, F.S. Shmyrin continued to serve in the Armed Forces of the USSR. In 1949, he graduated in absentia from the All–Union Electrotechnical Institute of Communications, and in 1951 from Air Force Academy. Since 1958 Colonel F.S. Shmyrin had in reserve, and then retired.
