Mikhail Georgievich Novoseltsev was the division commander of the 691st Artillery Regiment, a senior lieutenant, the Hero of the Soviet Union. He was in the army since September 1939. In June 1941 he graduated from the 1st Moscow Artillery School. He was a participant of the Great Patriotic War. He participated in the defensive battles near Voronezh, Voronezh-Kastornenskaya, Kharkov offensive and defensive operations, Belgorod-Kharkov and Sumy-Priluk operations, the Battle of the Dnieper, Kiev offensive and defensive, Zhytomyr-Berdichev, Proskurov-Chernivtsi, Lviv-Sandomierz, East Carpathian, West Carpathian, Moravska-Ostrava and Prague operations. He was lightly wounded three times in battles – in September 1943, in June and September 1944. He especially distinguished himself during the crossing of the Dnieper. On the night of September 25, 1943, he organized the crossing of two batteries of the division to the right bank of the Dnieper near the village of Grebeni (the Kagarlyk district of the Kiev region, Ukraine) and, taking up positions, he met the counterattacking enemy with fire. At critical moments of the battle, he personally stood up to the gun. The occupied bridgehead was held. For the courage and heroism shown in the battles with the Nazi invaders, by the Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR dated December 24, 1943, Captain Mikhail Georgievich Novoseltsev was awarded the title of the Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal. In 1948 he graduated from M.V. Frunze Military Academy. In January-October 1949 he was a battery commander and tactics teacher at Sumy Artillery School. In 1950 he completed the courses at Military Diplomatic Academy. In 1950-1959 he served as a senior officer in the 10th Directorate of the General Staff of the USSR Armed Forces (international cooperation). In 1961 he graduated from the Military Academy of the General Staff. In 1961-1970 he was Senior officer-operator and head of the direction group of the Main Operational Directorate of the General Staff of the USSR Armed Forces, in 1970-1975 he was the Head of the Operational Directorate of the General Staff of the Ground Forces. Since 1975, he was a senior lecturer at the Department of Command and Control of the Military Academy of the General Staff. Since August 1988, Major General M.G. Novoseltsev was retired.
