Grigory Savelyevich Moskovchenko was the Intelligence Chief of the 320th Guards Mortar Division (67th Guards Mortar Regiment, Southern Front), Guard Lieutenant, the Hero of the Soviet Union. He worked as a teacher of drawing and painting in high school. He was in the army since 1941. In 1942 he was educated in Krasnodar Artillery and Mortar School. In August 1942 – March 1944, he was the head of intelligence of the 320th Guards Mortar Division and the battery commander of the 67th Guards Mortar Regiment. On October 13, 1943, being with a group of scouts in the front ranks of the advancing units, he transmitted information about the enemy, skillfully corrected the division’s fire. On November 1, 1943 Lieutenant Grigory Savelyevich Moskovchenko was awarded the title of the Hero of the Soviet Union with the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star Medal for exemplary performance of combat missions of the command and bravery and heroism of the Guard. He participated in the Battle for the Caucasus, the liberation of Kuban, southern Ukraine and Crimea. In March 1944, he was wounded and sent to hospital. He especially distinguished himself during the Melitopol operation. After the war, in 1951 Grigory Savelyevich Moskovchenko graduated from Moscow Art Institute. He worked there as a teacher, the dean of the art faculty and head of the painting department. In 1963-1967 he was the Director of Moscow Secondary Art School at the Academy of Arts of the USSR.
