Gureev

Mikhail Georgievich Gureev was a Soviet military pilot, senior lieutenant, the Hero of the Soviet Union. In 1939, he entered Military Technical Aviation School and finished it in early June 1941. He was sent as a motorist to a fighter aviation regiment based in the Baltic States. He was seriously wounded at the very beginning of the Great Patriotic War. After recovering, he was sent to Artillery and Mortar School, he left it at the end of 1942 with the rank of lieutenant. Arriving at the front, he was appointed the head of the reconnaissance of the mortar regiment. In January 1944 Gureyev headed the headquarters of the 1st Mortar Division. His division smashed the Nazis in the Korsun-Shevchenko operation. During the defence period in the area of the village of Mokhnachki, the division destroyed up to 2 infantry companies, 7 firing points, 2 guns, 5 enemy vehicles. In June 1944 Gureev was appointed the commander of an artillery division. In this position he participated in the Iasi-Kishinev operation, liberated Hungary and Czechoslovakia. On February 1, 1945 Gureev was wounded in the battles for the liberation of the city of Banska Bystrica. As a part of the consolidated regiment of the 2nd Ukrainian Front, Captain Mikhail Georgievich Gureyev participated in the Victory Parade on Red Square. In 1946 M.G. Gureev. He finished Higher Artillery Officer School in Leningrad, in 1950 – Higher Quartermaster Officer School, in 1953 – the Military Academy of the Rear and Supply. Since 1958, Colonel M. G. Gureev was in reserve. He lived in Moscow. He worked as a vice-rector of the Ordzhonikidze Moscow Institute of Management.
