Spirin Ivan Timofeevich is a military pilot, participant of the Civil, Soviet-Finnish and Great Patriotic Wars, commander of the 9th Guards Bomber Aviation Corps, the Hero of the Soviet Union, Lieutenant General of Aviation, Doctor of Geographical Sciences, Professor. He began serving in the Soviet Army in 1918. He graduated the military school of pilots in 1930 and the higher academic courses at the Military Academy of the General Staff in 1949. In 1937 he was the flagship navigator of the air expedition to the North Pole, which landed the first Soviet drifting research station on the ice. Since 1938 he had taught at military academies, since 1955 he was retired. A street (formerly Chkalov Street) in Lianozov was named after I.T. Spirin in 1965. Lieutenant General of Aviation Spirin I.T. was awarded 3 Orders of Lenin, 2 Orders of the Red Banner, Orders of the Patriotic War of the 1st degree, the Red Banner of Labor, 2 Orders of the Red Star, medals and other awards.
