Ryazansky Mikhail Sergeevich was the Director and Chief Designer of the Research Institute No. 885 of the Ministry of Radio Engineering Industry of the USSR, corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR, Hero of Socialist Labor. Since 1934 he started working at the Research Institute-20: senior engineer, head of the laboratory, head of the department. He conducted research on aircraft radio detection systems, problems of remote control of military equipment. During the Great Patriotic War, he worked at the Research Institute-20 on the creation of the first Soviet serial radar stations. He was the Chief designer of the first Soviet long-range radar «Pegmatit», adopted and successfully used in combat. Since December 1946 he was the Chief Engineer and Deputy Director of the Research Institute-885 of the Ministry of Communications Industry of the USSR. Since 1951 Ryazansky Mikhail was Chief Engineer of the Research Institute-88 of the Ministry of Armament of the USSR. In June 1952 he was transferred to the central office of the Ministry and appointed head of the Main Directorate for Missile Technology of the Ministry of Armament of the USSR, a member of the Board of the Ministry. In 1953 at his personal request, he was relieved of this position and appointed Deputy Director for Scientific Work of the Scientific Research Institute of Instrument Engineering, where he worked for 33 years. In the 1960s and 1970s, Mikhail Ryazansky became a leading designer of control systems for automatic spacecraft for the exploration of the moon, Mars and Venus, manned spacecraft «Vostok», «Voskhod», «Soyuz». Under his leadership, unique ground and sea command and measurement complexes were created to control spacecraft flights, a unified control system for the simultaneous operation of several satellites to explore the Earth’s natural resources, and the international space system for detecting distress COSPAS-SARSAT.
