Museum and Memorial Complex of the History of the Russian Navy
In April 1999 the Moscow Government issued Decree No. 255−PP dated April 15, 2003 “On the establishment of a Cultural and memorial complex of the History of the Navy in Moscow”. On August 22, 2003 the state cultural institution of the city of Moscow “Submarine Museum” (GUK “Submarine Museum”) was organized; according to the decree of the Moscow Government “On the placement of the museum and memorial complex of the history of the Russian Navy and the cultural and entertainment center in the water area of the Khimki Reservoir”, released in November of the same year, the submarine B-396 was parked on the territory of the museum. The opening of the “Submarine Museum” took place on July 26, 2006 with the participation of Moscow Mayor Yu.M. Luzhkov, Navy Commander-in-Chief Admiral of the Fleet V.V. Masorin, submariners and cadets. In 2013 Severnoye Tushino Culture and Recreation Park and the Museum and Memorial Complex of the History of the Russian Navy merged into Severnoye Tushino Museum and Park Complex, where the Museum of the History of the Navy acquired the status of a subdivision of Severnoye Tushino MPC. The submarine served since 1981 as a combat member of the 4th Red Banner Order of Ushakov, I-th degree of the submarine squadron of the Northern Fleet. The boat was built in 1980 at the Krasnoe Sormovo plant in the city of Gorky (now Nizhny Novgorod). During her service, she made combat trips to the Mediterranean Sea, performed combat service tasks in the North and South Atlantic, off the west coast of Africa, as well as in the Barents and Norwegian Seas. After her decommissioning in 1998 from the Navy, the boat was bought by the Moscow authorities.
