Oleg Konstantinovich Khomutov was a test parachutist at the Scientific Research Institute of Aviation Devices, the Hero of the Soviet Union. In 1943-1947 he lived in the city of Pestovo, the Novgorod region, since 1947 – in the city of Slantsy, the Leningrad region. In 1953-1954 he studied at the Riga Aviation School of the Civil Air Fleet (GVF). In 1960 he graduated from Moscow Aviation Institute. He was engaged in parachuting in the MAI aero club. In 1960-1962 he was a test parachutist at the Scientific Research Institute of Aviation Devices (SRI AU). In 1962-1967 he was a test parachutist at the Flight Research Institute (now the M.M. Gromov LII). In 1967-1975 he was a test parachutist at the AU Research Institute. He was engaged in testing parachutes and ejection seats. In total, he performed about 1,400 parachute jumps, as well as 13 ejections from Be-12, Il-28, MiG-15LL, Su-9LL, Tu-22, Yak-25LL aircraft. In 1961 he participated in setting 2 world group parachute records. By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR dated April 26, 1971, for the courage and heroism shown during the testing of new parachute and ejection systems, test parachutist Oleg Konstantinovich Khomutov was awarded the title of the Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal. In 1975-1976 he worked as a leading designer at the Research Institute of Metallurgical Engineering, in 1976-1997 he was a design engineer at NPO Zvezda.
