Alexander Kirillovich Novikov was a colonel of the Soviet Army, participant of the Great Patriotic War, the Hero of the Soviet Union. He was born on August 30, 1920 in the village of Siltanovo, now in the Sebezhsky district of the Pskov region, in a peasant family. He was Russian. He finished 10 classes. He was drafted into the army in 1940. In 1942 he left the military aviation school of pilots in the city of Chkalov (now Orenburg). He was in the active army since December 1942. He fought as a pilot, senior pilot, flight commander, deputy commander and squadron commander in the 299th (from August 24, 1943 – 108th Guards) assault aviation regiment of the 290th (from August 24, 1943 – 6th Guards) assault Aviation Division in the Southwest, 3rdm and 1st Ukrainian fronts. By the end of the war, he had made 126 combat sorties on IL-2 and Il-10 attack aircraft to attack airfields, resistance units, equipment and enemy troops. He destroyed 15 tanks, 2 self-propelled guns, 9 enemy aircraft on the ground, 1 aircraft in aerial combat, 6 field artillery batteries, 4 mortar batteries, 4 locomotives, 14 railway wagons and tanks, 80 vehicles, 2 fuel depots, 4 ammunition depots, 12 anti-aircraft artillery points, killed up to 250 soldiers and enemy officers. By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR dated June 27, 1945, Alexander Kirillovich Novikov was awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal for courage and heroism shown during the assault strikes on the enemy. After the end of the Great Patriotic War, he continued to serve in the Air Force. In 1948 he completed Higher Aviation Officer Training Courses (KUOS), in 1956 – Air Force Engineering Academy. He served in command positions, mastered jet technology. Since 1975, Colonel-Engineer A.K. Novikov was in reserve.
