Khristianovich

Sergey Alekseevich Khristianovich was a Soviet Russian scientist in the field of mechanics, mining and energy, one of the founders of the Siberian Branch of the USSR Academy of Sciences, the academician of the USSR Academy of Sciences, the Hero of Socialist Labor. He graduated from Leningrad State University (1930). He worked at State Hydrological Institute (1930-1935), TsAGI (1937-1953, since 1942 worked as a Deputy, head of the institute). One of the organizers of the Siberian Branch of the USSR Academy of Sciences. In 1957-1961 Sergey Alekseevich Khristianovich was the Deputy Chairman of the Siberian Branch. In 1957-1965 he was the Director of the Institute of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics. In 1965-1972, he was the scientific director of the All-Union Research Institute of Physical, Technical and Radio Measurements. He taught at Leningrad and Moscow Universities, Novosibirsk State University, and he was one of the organizers of the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology. Heading the high-speed laboratory at TsAGI, as the scientific director of the Institute of Aerodynamics, Khristianovich was associated with the creation of high-speed aviation, took an active part in the technical re-equipment of TsAGI. That was the commissioning of a new experimental base, including pipes with perforated walls for research with a transition through the speed of sound. He obtained important results on the effect of air compressibility on the flow of wing profiles, formulated the requirements to be met by wing profiles designed for high subsonic flight speeds (1939-1940). Khristianovich’s post-war works cover flight modes with high subsonic, transonic and supersonic speeds, the theory of the propeller, Laval nozzle and ejector. Khristianovich’s activity had a great influence on the formation of large scientific collectives of the country.
