Vladimir Alekseevich Kirillin was born in the family of the famous children’s doctor Alexei Ivanovich Kirillin, who served in the Moscow City Children’s Hospital of St. Vladimir (later named after I. V. Rusakov). His mother, Lyubov Alekseevna Kirillina, was engaged in housework. After finishing the seven-year school №16 of the Bauman district in June 1928, Kirillin continued his education at the VTUZ training courses at Moscow Pedagogical College. He entered the evening department of Moscow Power Engineering Institute (MPEI) in 1931. He graduated from the MEI with a degree in thermal engineering, having defended in July 1936 the diploma project «Sokolniki» heating plant with a capacity of 50 megawatts at 130 atmospheres. After graduation, he worked at the Kashirskaya GRES, in October 1936 he was called up for military service, which he held at a special powerful power plant of the Pacific Fleet. At the beginning of the Great Patriotic War, at the end of August 1941, he was drafted into the Red Army, received a referral to the Marine Corps officer training courses, served as a cadet, then worked as a teacher. He was demobilized in the summer of 1943. In 1943-1954 (with a break from May to August 1945, when he served as a part of the Group of Soviet troops in Austria). Vladimir Alekseevich Kirillin was a secretary of the Committee of the CPSU (b), deputy director and lecturer of the Department of Engineering Thermophysics of the MEI. He defended his doctoral dissertation on the topic «Investigation of thermodynamic properties of water and water vapor of high parameters» in April 1951. Vladimir Alekseevich Kirillin was awarded four Orders of Lenin, the Order of the Red Banner of Labor, the medal «For Labor Valor», the Order “For Services to the Fatherland of the IV degree for services to the state, long-term conscientious work and a great contribution to strengthening friendship and cooperation between peoples”. He was awarded by the Stalin Prize of the third degree for theoretical and experimental studies of the thermodynamic properties of water and water vapor in the field of high and ultrahigh temperatures and pressures. Also he was awarded the Lenin Prize for theoretical and experimental studies of the thermophysical properties of water and water vapor at high pressures, the medal «For Valiant Labor during the Great Patriotic War» and other awards.
