Timofey Grigoryevich Pluzhnikov was the commander of the 293rd Howitzer Artillery Regiment, a Lieutenant Colonel, the Hero of the Soviet Union. He was in the Red Army since 1933. He finished Moscow Artillery School in 1936, and in 1941 completed courses at Military Academy named after F.E. Dzerzhinsky. He was a participant of the Great Patriotic War since July 1941. He served as the commander of the 293rd howitzer artillery regiment. Lieutenant Colonel Timofey Pluzhnikov skillfully managed the regiment during the breakthrough of the heavily fortified, deeply echeloned enemy defence during the Lublin-Brest operation in July 1944, as well as during the crossing of the Western Bug River near the village of Gushcha (the Lyubomlsky district, the Volyn region) and the capture of the bridgehead. By the decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR dated October 26, 1944, for exemplary performance of combat missions of the command at the front of the struggle against the Nazi invaders and the courage and heroism shown at the same time, Lieutenant Colonel Timofey Grigoryevich Pluzhnikov was awarded the title of the Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal (No. 3102). He continued to serve in the ranks of the Soviet Army after the war. Since 1960, Colonel T.G. Pluzhnikov was in reserve.
